Message: What does beans, chickpeas and insect spray have in common. Is there a deeper meaning?
Incredible how well a key fits into its lock - is what I’m thinking as I climb the stairs to your apartment with your key in my hand.
Followed by the sound of a lock being opened as well as me taking off both my shoes and jacket.
Although I am not a guest, manners still exist.
I use my phone as a torch looking for the light switch, illumination. I look left and I look right, there’s a picture of people whom I have never met. I see where you keep your clothes, your memorabilia, a rug on the floor a lamp from Ikea which I have seen before. In your kitchen I open your cupboards. All of them at once. I see rice, pasta, wheat, pesto in a glass as well as oats for breakfast. In your fridge I find chili sauce and leftovers from the day before, I hope. I close it, leaving the cupboards open - sort of an abstract installation created just for you, a sign that someone was there - yet nothing is missing.
Where ever you are you are not here, still I ask you: How does a rug from ikea, rice, pasta, wheat, pesto in a glass, oats for breakfast, chili sauce and leftovers from the day before all relate to one another - is there a deeper meaning?
Without knowing what you might answer, I would like to answer your original question:
The things in our lives are reflections of who we are at a specific time in our life. Could this be the deepest meaning of all? I truly do not know - however I do know that the cans of chickpeas and the DOOM insect spray that you saw on my instagram story was a clear reflection of where I was at a specific time in my life. You see at night in the bush even the dimmest source of light will attract an orchestra of flies.
Some chunky, others light and some hungry for blood. Canned chickpeas are incredibly nutritious, delicious - compact and easy in terms of storage.
One could argue that canned beans are a metaphor for my entire existence.
